Hurricane Arthur (no relation to Jacobs or Kelly) paid a visit on the 4th, delaying our picnic by a day, but good weather followed and some good fellowship and food were enjoyed by about 40 brothers, family and friends on the 5th.
On July 12th, brothers of Council 511 gathered aboard the Ocean Eagle to take on the vast hoards of croaker and spot lurking offshore in the mouth of the James river. Many croaker were given quick rides from the bottom to the boat (and back again) and a few were lucky enough to go home with some of us for a lovely dinner. Two large sharks were caught by others on the boat, and one lucky fellow landed a keeper flounder. The weather was perfect, the company was cheerful, and the fish kept us very busy. Keep an ear out for the ever enlarging fish tales over the next few months as the fishermen “improve” their memories.
